The Journey Continues
Imagine It - March Update
The students have completed the “Math in Nature” projects. The results were mixed. Some students really put thought into their projects and their final presentations were very good. Some students did not and their presentations were basic at best. For those that did not do a good job on their projects, I have allowed them to resubmit a group presentation outlining specific roles each group member assumed. I have postponed the next project presentations which were due on March 16th. They are now due the following week.
I will follow the advice I was given and make sure the projects are smaller or broken into smaller sections as not to overwhelm the students. Also, I have decided to go over the rubrics in detail with the students at the start of every project.
Finally, I must admit that collectively, I am encouraged by the results. The students did have to think about mathematics outside of their normal classroom settings. As an educator, I must always be ready to acknowledge and accept small victories.
